The Gladwin County Fair

Did you know that approximately 85 Michigan counties or local agriculture societies host fairs in every part of our state.  A few of these Fairs were established in the mid 1800’s.  Michigan also hosts two State Fairs, one in Detroit which began in 1849, and one in Escanaba which began in 1927.  Agriculture is Michigan’s second largest industry and what better place to highlight those products than at our local fairs. The fair directors, along with many other volunteers, community businesses, believe strongly in the value of youth and the how the fair can provide a place for them to showcase their many talents.  We believe we must have a place for the crafts, and skills learned by our parents and grandparents to be exhibited for the community’s enjoyment

There have been many financial challenges involved with offering an event such as a fair to our communities.  We continue to work through our budget difficulties as does the entire state of Michigan.  The two state fairs will not be funded by the state in 2010.  We hope that the concerned people can work through the ropes so that some group will be able to take over these two fairs and continue to have a place for our local, first place winners to exhibit their projects.  We invite you to contact your legislators and let them know how important fairs and our youth are to all of us.  We need their assistance and funding to be able to grow. 

 We personally invite you to experience all the excitement and community celebration during the Gladwin Fair.  Our primary goal is to educate and entertain our visitors.   If you have not attended a fair in years, make this the year to enjoy the atmosphere.
